Laser hair removal is a procedure that uses laser— an intense beam of light — to remove unwanted hair permanently. A light beam passing through the skin targets dark pigment, called melanin, in hair. When the light beam hits the hair follicles (where hair growth originate), the intense heat destroys them. It takes a few treatments to provide an extended hair free period. Clinical studies showed that after 4-6 sessions of treatment, received 6-8 weeks apart, 99% of the hair shall be removed permanently.
Prior to each treatment, numbing cream is applied on the target area(s). A laser instrument is then pressed to the skin, where a stinging sensation will be experienced. You may also notice the smell of charring of stubble or burnt hair, which is normal.
For smaller areas such as those above the upper lips or the fingers themselves, the procedure will take around five minutes. For larger body portions such as the back or thighs, each treatment may take up to two hours. Redness and swelling may appear in the first few hours, while a stinging sensation may continue for a day or two.
You should keep the treated area(s) well moisturized and protected from excessive irritation (sun, harsh scrubbing, very hot baths etc.)
To deliver the safest and the most optimal results, different laser equipments, including the 755nm Alexandrite and Long Pulse 1064nm Nd: YAG laser, are used in combination. Skin Focus offers a 12-month guarantee on all its hair removal packages.
