Undereye Shadows |
The skin around the eye area is the thinnest in the body. Many blood vessels in this facial portion can show through the delicate skin, contributing to the appearance of undereye shadows or dark circles. The condition becomes particularly serious if the vessels are dilated.
Dark circles can be caused by several factors:
Allergy |
Genetics; in some cases, the "undereye shadow" condition runs in the family |
Loss of skin tone |
Overabundance of melanin or pigments |
Poor blood circulation |
Sleep deprivation/poor-quality sleep |
Sun exposure triggers formation of "age spots" around the eyes and weaken the skin, hence contributing to undereye shadows |
Increased fluid retention |
Aging causes the fat pad below the eye to thin, producing a sunken appearance |
Extreme weight loss causing this sunken look |
